Preparation

Switch on your XBox 360 and make sure it can access XBox Live

While this guide talks about an XBox 360 the same hints apply to other devices

Login to router

The Sagem 2504n is at http://192.168.1.1 and initial login requires no username and password.

Now click the advanced tab, at which point you will be asked for the admin password. This should be written under the router, or on one of the bits of paper Sky sent out with the router.

The list of attached devices does not normally tell you want the name of each machine is, to tell which device is the XBox, visit the IEEE website which via a search will tell you what manufacturer a MAC is used by. Simple take the first six digits/letters (replace : with - ) and enter them into the search box, in our case I had two unknown devices, the first showed up as a Sagem unit (i.e. who makes the Sky+ HD box) and the second when I entered 00-25-ae was revealed to be the range that Microsoft used, so simple deduction that this was the XBox.

To make life easy I have reserved the same IP address as what the XBox was already using, and you can add a name to the unit, though as I found the Sagem does not you to use spaces in the Device Name field.

You could if you wanted just set a static IP address on the XBox 360, but a neater solution is to use the router and its ability to reserve an IP address for a device, and always hand out the same one.

Click LAN IP SETUP tab option and under the Address Reservation table click the ADD button.

Setting DMZ Host IP address

Now with the IP Address reserved click WAN SETUP.

Enter the IP address we earlier reserved for the XBox 360, in our case 192.168.1.9 and click the Apply button

Now your console will now get all the unsolicitied traffic directed to it. In theory UPnP should be sufficient to make XBox Live work behind the Sagem, but if you have two games consoles of the same brand setting the DMZ for one of the consoles may help if there are problems with a game and its online play.
